The Panathlon Foundation

The organisation behind the The Panathlon Joy Garden at RHS Chelsea 2024, explains their mission and aims

The Panathlon Foundation

The Panathlon Foundation charity delivers sporting programmes and has been benefitting children with disabilities and special needs for over 25 years. It is now delivering to every county in the country.

Last year, the number of children participating in a Panathlon event increased by a massive 20% year on year to just under 63,000. Independent research indicates that an additional 51,164 children have benefitted from Panathlon-inspired activities, with schools making PE curricula more inclusive; investing in equipment; developing assessment tools; creating leadership roles for SEND children; building new inter-school sports fixtures and opening school facilities to the community.

This ripple-effect shows the work of Panathlon to promote inclusivity in sport will continue to extend to even more pupils in the future. The combination of face-to-face, and in-school, ‘virtual’ activities demonstrates how the pandemic-instigated virtual competition has become integral to the Panathlon offer and has empowered schools to engage more, enhancing what they can offer.

New research proves the massive impact Panathlon is having in the community with 92% of participants benefitting from increased self-esteem and confidence, and reduced isolation and absenteeism in schools.

Panathlon are hoping that the RHS Chelsea Flower Show allows us to move to the ‘next level’ and create better exposure and recognition on a national level. We aim to learn from others before us and discover a new audience to educate about our work.
