Gardening matters; it matters for individuals, communities and society. Gardening can and should be for everyone and at the RHS we work to make this a reality.
Inspiring children and young people through gardening is therefore at the top of our priority list.
Over a million children have been encouraged to get growing through our Campaign for School Gardening. We aim to get 80% of all primary schools in England to have a school garden by 2010.
We know it is not just children who need nurturing and encouraging, which is why we run Europe’s largest Community gardening Campaign, Britain in Bloom. Britain in Bloom is a call to action for tens of thousands of gardeners across the UK to work together to improve local environments.
Understanding where our food comes from is key in tackling so many of the problems facing the UK. Our Grow Your Own campaign is all about getting people to use whatever space they have to grow their own food.
In all these we are uniquely placed to work with communities and provide the knowledge of how and what to do.
