Taking a Closer Look- digital botanical illustrations by Niki Simpson

Niki combines the scientific standards of traditional artwork, photographic realism and the application of digital technology. Her approach to botanical illustration has been described as groundbreaking.
This work has many close links to the RHS, particularly to Wisley, and most of the images portray plants growing here. Niki developed her work in collaboration with botanist Peter Barnes, who was also on the RHS Botany Department staff for many years. She has illustrated many RHS Trials Bulletins and makes use of the RHS Colour Chart to accurately record plant colour.
The exhibition includes digital botanical illustrations, interactive books and short slideshow on the way the artist’s work.
