“Please help the RHS to ensure the survival of vital horticultural skills and knowledge.” Alan Titchmarsh

This year, to coincide with the celebrations surrounding 100 years of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show at the Royal Hospital, we have launched the RHS Chelsea Centenary Appeal, to raise £1 million to help us inspire today’s young people, and future generations, to love gardening.

Creating tomorrow’s horticulturists

There are currently more than one million under-25s out of work in the UK. Yet there are thousands of vacancies in the horticultural industry. We are introducing apprenticeships to RHS gardens to help bridge the green skills gap, and engaging with schools through the RHS Campaign for School Gardening, to help ensure that the vital skills and expertise of todays’ gardeners are passed on to the next generation. Only then can we safeguard our precious green spaces, maintain our ability to grow our own food, and keep Britain a green and beautiful land.

Inspiring the next generation to safeguard the planet

We need to inspire more young gardeners to get involved and help shape a greener environment. Creating more green spaces and nurturing gardens will help to control rising temperatures in our cities, prevent flash flooding and provide important habitats for wildlife, including the pollinating insects that are such an essential link in our food chain. And developing cultivars that can cope with a changing climate will aid future sustainability.

Please help us ensure the future of this valuable species

Please help us raise £1m to save the horticulturist and safeguard our gardening heritage.

Donate £300 and help fund fruit trees for 5 schools to celebrate reaching our highest gardening level.
As a token of our thanks, we’ll send you an exclusive print of ‘China Rose’ from Bartholomew's A Selection of Flowers Adapted Principally for Students, published in London by R. Ackermann in 1821-1822.

Donate £1,000 or more and help fund the monthly salary of an RHS apprentice.
As a special thank you, we’ll invite you to an event in aid of the RHS Chelsea Centenary Appeal at the Chelsea Flower Show, which you can choose to attend in 2013 or 2014. The 2013 event is ‘Chelsea by Twilight’, on the evening of Tuesday 21 May, with drinks, canapés and a special tour of the show after it has closed to the public.
