The Wild Wood AppealThe Wild Wood Appeal

Thank you for your support

Just over 10 years ago we set out to re-plant the woodland that was once such a distinctive feature of the landscape at RHS Garden Hyde Hall. We've planted nearly 50 acres of woodland with some 50,000 trees, including ash, alder, silver birch and oak – our Wild Wood.

Getting trees established in the heavy Essex clay can be rather challenging but we have had spectacular results and the Wild Wood is taking shape and maturing well.

The second phase of planting

In 2009 we launched our second Wild Wood Appeal to raise funds for the next phase of planting. Our aim was to raise £105,000 which would enable us to plant another 35,000 trees. We exceeded this target thanks to the generous donations from our members and supporters, who donated over £120,000 for planting.

Since 2010 we have planted over 12,000 trees and over the next five years we want to re-plant as many trees as we can, creating a beautiful, tranquil, native woodland landscape for all to enjoy.

Thank you for your support

We would like to thank everyone who donated to the Wild Wood appeal. We hope that you will enjoy seeing the garden evolve as we plant more trees, and perhaps enjoy one of the three woodland walks. Pick up a map when you come to visit us!
