Management of the Society
The day-to-day running of the Society is delegated to the Executive Directors and other staff. However, Council retains ultimate responsibility for the actions of staff. The Directors and staff must operate within the scope of the powers delegated to them.

Each Director has a number of departments under his or her control responsible for the Society’s operational activities and implementing the annual work programme agreed by Council.

At the 31 January 2009, the Society employed 584 full-time and 216 part-time staff.
