Help Secure Our Future
How your legacy makes the difference
Many of the society's plans for the future can only be realised through additional funding, including legacies. They give the RHS the confidence to commit to long term projects with confidence. The RHS is a charity and receives no government grants or other support. For every pound we raise from member subscriptions, we need more than twice as much again to fund our charitable work.
Over the next 25 years the RHS has ambitious plans. We aim to increase our networks of gardens and shows, to expand our education programme, to further apply our scientific research for the benefit of gardeners, and to bring the benefits of horticulture and gardening to diverse communities across the UK.
By giving a legacy to the RHS you will not only be making a sound investment in our work but also helping to secure the future of gardening for generations to come.
"Membership of the RHS has given me so much inspiration I felt I wanted to give something in return to help further its aims."
Mrs M J West, RHS Member
How we spend legacy funds
Legacy money is used to expand our education programmes, both the schools programme and our adult education initiatives. The RHS has superb science and research departments that have helped and informed thousands of professional and amateur gardeners. We have developed best practices in the care, handling and protection of plants used by gardeners across the globe.
Legacy funds support the work we do in protecting the environment. Our countryside is experiencing huge change, and threats to our native biodiversity from climatic and environmental change mean that the work of the RHS has never been so vital. The RHS maintains a leading role in the evolution of good practice in gardening and has developed an approach to the use of pesticides, water and peat that respects the environment, whilst also addressing the practical needs of gardeners. Your legacy will help us maintain the biodiversity that makes our British countryside such a fascinating and special place.
Legacy funds are used to maintain and improve our gardens at Wisley, Rosemoor, Hyde Hall and Harlow Carr, which are visited by over a million people every year . The world class facilities of the Lindley Library also benefit from these generous donations.
Our vision for the future is an ambitious one. Building on 200 years of growth and achievement, the Society needs your help to realise that vision and bring the benefits to all gardeners, our communities and the environment.
