Torfaen County Borough Council

Torfaen chose this particular story as it represents and promotes Pontypool rugby in Torfaen. The story about the Pontypool ‘Front Row’ was made famous as it was a unit of three players whose talents on the pitch marked their success not only with Pontypool but also their success in Welsh Rugby Union in the 1970s. The Pontypool ‘Front Row’ was also known as ‘Viet Gwent’ (motto ’we may go down; we may go up, but we never go back’). The Front Row played as a unit 19 times for Wales, and they also played as a unit for the British and Irish Lions. The Torfaen exhibit is an acknowledgement of the Pontypool ‘Front Row’ achievements.
