Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 40 minutes
Warning: this recipe contains nuts.
What you will need
2 eating apples (around 200g after peeling and coring)
40g of dried apricots
30g of sultanas or dates
50g of cashew nuts
50g self raising flour
20g pumpkin seeds
9ml of unsweetened apple juice
How to do it
-
Put on an apron and wash your hands before you begin. Don’t forget to ask an adult to help you use a knife correctly.
-
You will need a shallow tray or cake tin of about 20cm diameter. Grease and line with greaseproof paper.
-
Put the oven on 170 degrees centigrade (Gas mark 3).
-
Peel and core the two apples and then slice into very small pieces, around 1cm cubes. Ask an adult to help you put the apple in a pan and place the pan over a low heat with two tablespoons of water for ten minutes.
-
Chop all the dried fruit and nuts into small pieces. Then mix all the dry ingredients together.
-
When the apple is soft mix it into the bowl with the dried fruit and nuts.
-
Add the apple juice and mix until it is all combined together.
-
Press the mixture into the cake tin with a spoon so that it is evenly spread across the tin.
-
Bake in the oven for 40 minutes at 170 degrees centigrade (Gas mark 3). The cereal bars will be golden on top when they are ready.
-
Ask an adult to take the tin out of the oven and leave the bars to cool in the tin. When cool cut in to bars and remove from the tin. Delicious.
