Edible pond

Here's a pond you can eat!

Amaze your friends and family by surprising them with a pond you can eat!

Ingredients

  • 1 sachet of blackcurrant jelly
  • 1 packet of green jelly
  • 1 fruit bar
  • Small bunch of grapes
  • Blue food colouring
  • A tin of tapioca pudding
  • Hot water
  • Jelly insects
  • Chocolate frog

You will also need:

  • Glass bowl
  • Jug
  • Spoon
  • Scissors / knife
  • An adult to help with making the jelly
  • Method

  1. With an adult to help you, make the pack of blackcurrant jelly, pour into the glass bowl and place it in the fridge to set.

  2. Remove the bowl from the fridge and set out a layer of jelly insects on top of the blackcurrant jelly.

  3. With an adult to help you, make up half the packet of green jelly and add a few drops of blue food colouring. Leave this to cool slightly, but not until it has set, and pour over the blackcurrant layer. Place the bowl in the fridge and leave to set.

  4. Take the fruit bar and use the scissors to cut it in to leaf and reed shapes. Cut the grapes in half - you might need a grown-up to help use the knife.

  5. Make up the rest of the green jelly and again add a few drops of blue food colouring. Leave until it has cooled but not set. When the jelly is partly set, pour it on the previous layer in the bowl. Spoon some tablespoons of tapioca pudding to look like frog spawn in to the jelly and decorate the surface with the leaf shapes and upturned grape halves. Stick the reeds in so they are sticking up in the air. Place in the fridge to set.

  6. You can add the final decorations of insects and the chocolate frog when the jelly is set.
