Things to do in August

Water the crops in late summerAugust can be the hottest time of the year so make sure your plants don’t suffer in the heat by careful watering. See the RHS website for further advice.

Fruit & veg

Sow now:

Harvest now:

Sweet corn, beans, peas, spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, spring onions

Jobs now:

  • Pot up strawberry runners to have more strawberry plants for next year.

  • Deadhead flowers
  • Collect some seed from your favourite plants to sow next year.

Wildlife

  • Allow seed heads to develop on some plants to provide food for birds and animals.
