Harlow Carr maths quiz trails
The problem solving trails were written by an Advanced Skills Teacher and a consultant working for North Yorkshire LA to provide a rich learning experience for secondary school students outside the mathematics classroom.
The trails use the Harlow Carr Garden as a stimulus for a range of problem solving activity, helping students to see the wealth and variety of mathematics that is around them.
The trail consists of 32 activities covering number, algebra, geometry and measures and is suitable for KS4 students (14-16). A KS3 version contains problems selected from the full trail that have been modified so that they are more accessible or require lower level mathematics in order to solve them.
A separate scavenger hunt encourages students to look for mathematical objects in the garden. This is suitable for all students and can be followed independently or at the same time as the problem solving trail.
