RHS Photographic Competition 2010
Congratulations to Vickie Howard, of Bristol, who took top honours in the RHS Photographic Competition 2010, sponsored by Medici.
Vickie was named overall RHS Photographer of the Year, winning first prize with her striking image of ‘Sun and rain on Tulips’ (pictured above) in the Garden Plants Study category.
She said: “Late evening sun was backlighting the tulips beautifully even as the rain began to fall. My daughter held an umbrella over me while I took the photograph”
Sam Kaye, of Radlett, was named the RHS Young Photographer of the Year, for his close up of plant and hoverfly (left).
There were thousands of entries this year with entrants ranging from four to 84. Entries came in from around the globe.
The judges were Chris Young, Deputy Editor of The Garden magazine, the photographer Allan Pollok-Morris and James Arnold, Licensing manager of RHS Media.
Allan Pollok-Morris said: "It was a pleasure to see the work of such a variety of truly talented photographers and to see how many people can give an individual view of new or familiar subjects.
"It was particularly interesting to see the personal work of professionals and to learn that the natural talent of amateurs can be so evident without the use of expensive equipment.
"I thought the standard of entry from these was very high and think the overall selection is an inspiration for anyone from the under 5s to the over 80s to explore their own approach to gardens and photography."
