This is a two-year course of paid work experience with academic studies. With its unique facilities, RHS Garden Wisley is an excellent place to study.
Holders of this qualification will be able to use the Dip. Hort (Wisley) designate and will have demonstrated by continuous assessment, Coursework and two national practical examinations, a broad knowledge of horticultural principles and practice and excellent practical ability.
Each September, there is an intake of up to 14 candidates from all around. Remuneration is currently £13,056 per year, paid monthly.

Wisley Diploma trainees attend classes at our Study Centre to underpin the practical nature of the course and are expected to carry out the following coursework:
- Keep a diary
- Prepare collections of herbarium material, pests and diseases
- Keep an allotment
- Undertake a dissertation
- Fortnightly plant identification tests
Applicants are expected as a minimum to hold a National Certificate in Horticulture, an RHS Level 2 in Horticulture, or similar. Additionally applicants should also have some practical horticultural experience in a professional environment.
Applicants from overseas are considered, and acceptance is subject to a Work Permit being granted for non-EU nationals.
A good working knowledge of the English language is essential, and evidence to that effect will be requested.
Consideration for the award of the Wisley Diploma in Practical Horticulture takes account of the trainee gardener's practical performance in garden placements, success in the coursework requirements and the RHS practical examinations.
Successful candidates are entitled to use the designation Dip. Hort. (Wisley) after their names.
