Voluntary Internships are offered to students of horticulture with some previous practical experience, who are seeking a short-term placement.
The experience provides an opportunity to work in a prestigious garden while learning basic gardening skills and techniques. You will work alongside experienced gardeners. Our garden managers are very skilled and much can be gained by being observant and talking to garden staff to learn more about horticulture as a career.
The work experience scheme has been operating for several years and many previous participants are making their way into horticultural careers and some are even coming back to the RHS as fully fledged gardeners.
Every year a limited number of unwaged placements are available at RHS Garden Wisley and Rosemoor for horticultural students seeking short-term (one to three months) work experience to supplement their studies. Accommodation can be provided in Wisley village and at Rosemoor at a subsidised rate.
These placements are very popular and are often filled up to nine months in advance. Applications, however, can be made at any time of the year. The work is general gardening. Placements are usually made in the Floral or Glasshouse departments.
Placements in other departments, such as the Rock Garden or Fruit section are available to students with specific interests in those areas, but requests need to be made clear on the application form.
