New garden design trends- exciting course update
16 July, 10.30am - 4.30pm
In addition to the information below, it is now confirmed that award-winning garden designers Adam Frost and Jo Thompson will both be sharing their views on garden design trends and speaking about their experiences at RHS shows. Don’t miss this excellent opportunity to hear from some of the best in the business.
As much as our gardens contain plants and trees that may have been with us for all the time we have been gardening, it is difficult to ignore new trends in garden design. Many of these are associated with new technology, new plants and plant varieties and the challenges of ecology and environment.
This one-day lecture-based course examines the new trends that are affecting our gardens and investigates key areas where people are making changes in the design of their gardens. We’ll look at some of the new ideas that were seen at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show this year and make a prediction of how we might garden in 20 years’ time.

Introduction to Japanese Woodblock Printing
28-29 August, 10.15am - 4.30pm
Tutor: Laura Boswell
New for 2013, join renowned printmaker Laura Boswell for this two-day course in the wonderful art of Japanese woodblock printing. Traditional Japanese woodblock is a sensitive and beautiful print process using watercolour and rice. The ancient method produced the iconic woodblock prints from Japan's Edo Period. It is a tabletop method, requiring no press and uses totally non-toxic materials.
This course covers the basic skills needed to create a multi-coloured print using traditional Japanese woodblock techniques, giving an understanding of the materials involved and the techniques required. Laura welcomes all levels of experience, especially beginners who would like to take away the basic skills to be able to print successfully with watercolour at home.
