  • Drumming workshop at Rosemoor

    Garden Explorers get drumming!

There was something a little bit different this half-term at RHS Garden Rosemoor in Great Torrington. An exclusive Family Drumming Workshop, just for Garden Explorers and totally free!

Using bongo drums and other handheld percussion, the whole family explored different styles of drumming and to perform a variety of styles and rhythms.

Drumming workshops can help children to develop musical awareness, rhythm, concentration skills and focus and are energetic, fun and informative for anyone of any age. Look out for more Garden Explorers events coming up soon!

    Garden Parties

    14 July 2007

Garden parties were held at all four RHS Gardens on Saturday 14 July to celebrate the launch of the Garden Explorers Club. Each garden hosted Garden Explorer activities including treasure hunts, story telling and seed planting. Wisley and Harlow Carr had a visit from the Buggettes stilt walkers, and all gardens provided free cake to the hungry garden explorers!

  • Fairy Cakes and Flower Pots….?

  • It’s Party Time in the Gardens!

  •

  • To celebrate the launch of Garden Explorers, the RHS invited children and parents to fun-packed parties at the four RHS gardens. Lauren Hobbs, age 12 reports from the garden party at Wisley:

  •

  • “Garden Explorers are hungry people who were warmly welcomed at Wisley with fairy cakes and juices to start the afternoon with.

After a few minutes the story teller arrived and sat on a gigantic rock and catches everyone’s attention by playing a happy tune on her violin .

  •

She started telling the audience them how a seed grows but instead of talking she sang with lots of fun actions, getting the young children involved, doing the actions with her. The children found her route of teaching far more interesting than at school and had lots of fun whilst learning.

  •

  • Next was a treasure hunt in the wild garden; you had to find: a tap, secret paths, three cardboard people, a enormous leaf, a bird, bamboo jungle, red leaves, smelly plants and a brilliant bug. Whilst the story teller and singing was aimed at younger children, the treasure hunt had wider appeal and was fun even for the older kids, like me.

Once I had found answers to all the clues I went back to the welcome tent and got a gold sticker and a windmill that was multicoloured. We started to leave and these ladies came past they were dressed up as flowerpots they were on stilts they looked very pretty.

  •

Mum and I then went on to visit Wisley’s new Glasshouse and the teaching garden ~ it was a shame the classroom was closed as it looked fun, but I really enjoyed the gardens, looking at all the vegetables growing and looking for wild life in the pond. I had fun too in the glass houses packed with strange and exotic plants .
I loved the waterfall the best, and stood behind it hiding from mum like I would behind the curtains at home.

  •

  • Once you are in the gardens there is so much do and discover , even in the café and the shop . So if you joined the garden explorers there would be even more to do, with specially laid on activities as well as everything else going on at Wisley”
