Video to inspire community gardening

26 July 2011

Newly formed Barnoldswick in Bloom in Lancashire has created a video to highlight its local environmental activities.

Through the RHS Britain in Bloom campaign the group has developed the old mill town’s public areas, created attractive horticultural displays and kept the streets litter free, showing the big impact that a community can make on its own area.

Barnoldswick in Bloom chair, Hugh Lawrence, said: 'People you speak to in the street tell you how the town's appearance makes them feel happy. Our first-time Bloom entry is the latest effort in decades of people's work to improve the town. But participation in Bloom also gets you thinking across the whole spectrum, from lovely flowers to wild food hedges, and about ways to continue to get everybody involved, including school children. It leads on to wider community action like tackling litter and grot-spots as well.

'The idea of the video was to produce something not just for a presentation to the Bloom judges but which we can use to encourage and inspire people in the coming year.'
