New raised beds
Work started this month on planting and landscaping around the new Bramall Learning Centre, and we had to build the raised veg growing beds in the teaching garden, and fill them with soil ready for use. Unfortunately the day we were doing this it was freezing cold winds and rain, so not much fun - but the beds look smart now they’re in.
On the Kitchen Garden we've had a couple of frosts, so have to cover any newly planted veg and potato foliage at night. We've planted out potatoes, broad beans, peas and spinach and lettuce, and yet more plants are queueing up to come out of the glasshouse.
Seed sowing is also full-on, and we are sowing tender crops under glass which go out after the last frosts, like squashes, French and runner beans, courgettes, and hardier subjects like carrots and beetroot outside – there are not enough hours in the day!
The spell of warmer weather we have had unfortunately has encouraged the weeds to grow and also the grass, so its mowing time again. . . it doesn't stop here!
