Work place allotment
I'm Daniel Webb, a copywriter for the Book People and work at the company's head office in Surrey. Last year part of the grounds, was turned into staff allotments and myself and 15 colleagues from different departments tentatively began to grow vegetables. Most of us had little or no experience of vegetable gardening and we all relied on advice from parents and grandparents and the help of John, the Book People's gardener, to prepare our plots, choose seeds and cultivate our crops.
This year, we all have a little more confidence and have learnt valuable lessons such as: when a seed packet says 'sow thinly' you should follow this instruction or resign yourself to overcrowded, tiddly carrots! It'll be interesting to see how we get on and if we can improve on last year's results.
