All hands on deck
It's April on the allotment, the sun's out, the sky is blue and the peacocks are getting frisky. Luckily the bunting over our allotments, though not exactly pretty, does a good job of deterring peacocks and pigeons alike.
After a slow start, our plot is now a hive of activity. Spotted this week: Charlotte clearing weeds (she seemed to amass a pile the size of a small lorry from her tiny patch of ground!), Hanna digging for victory in her new plot alongside the sunny back wall, Becky weeding in her polka dot wellies and Dave getting some white onions in the ground.
I'm excited as my radishes have poked their first leaves through the soil - the first sign of growth on my plot as the potatoes and peas are still in hiding. My mum recommended that I plant radishes and parsnips together in a row so the fast-growing radishes will be a marker while the parsnips are taking their time to show themselves. Good tip!
In the potting shed, Kim has filled lots of seed trays with courgettes, cucumbers and tomatoes and has started a giant sunflower competition by getting us all to plant sunflower seeds in little pots. I'll keep you informed of the progress of our sunflowers - giant or otherwise!
