It's all go on the allotment!

Helping on the allotmentFinally we've got some spring-like weather, so we're all starting to get busy on the allotment.

Our first job has been clearing the remains of last year's vegetables and adding them to the compost heap, then plenty of digging, hoeing and raking to get the plots neat and tidy again.

Web designer, Dave, has already started planting - he has early carrots, parsnips and onions in the ground. Web marketer, Alex and I, who share an allotment, are a bit slower off the mark - we're still at the stage of looking through the seeds we saved from last year and deciding what to plant where.

We're quite keen on the idea of crop rotation, especially after our potatoes suffered from blight, so we'll have to draw up a plan this week to work out where everything will go.

Allotments are great fun for children like MorganOne of the best things about our allotments is that they're a great place to bring family and friends when they visit at weekends.

Online marketing executive Kim brought her friend's daughter Morgan along last weekend and they thoroughly enjoyed doing some digging and planting... until Morgan was scared off by all the wriggly worms that they uncovered!

We're all looking forward to welcoming more visitors, young and old, to the plot this spring.
