Kitchen garden

Amy Lax and Alison Mundie

We are the veg team at Harlow Carr – Alison Mundie (right) has been looking after veg since 1999; Amy Lax joined the RHS five years ago, after training at the gardens on the RHS one-year Diploma scheme.

Hopefully 2010 will be less frantic for us! Last year we designed and built a new productive garden (the old kitchen garden has disappeared under the new Learning Centre), with groundwork starting in winter 2008 and continuing through mud, snow and ice early last year, to construction of raised beds in spring. Even with some infrastructure to finish, and areas that need soil improvement, it was generally considered a huge success for such a new project.
