Harvesting an abundance of apples
We have apples in abundance this year. These apple recipes make the most of the windfalls and apples that have a few blemishes – a good way of using them rather than wasting them.
Time to freeze some too, ready to use for pies and crumbles in the coming year. I find it best to peel and cook the apples with a little sugar, keeping the texture chunky then tip the cooked apples into individual containers, small clean ice cream plastic boxes will do, cover and label.
The very best apples can be stored individually, wrapped in newspaper, kept on trays or boxes in a frost free shed or garage.
