Pocket-sized chemicals advice

19 April 2010

Information cards on garden chemicals

Gardeners confused over how to handle garden chemicals now have advice at their fingertips thanks to a new pocket-sized information card.

The postcard, published by the Health & Safety Executive, gives five tips on how to use, store and dispose of garden chemicals to tackle widespread misunderstanding among amateur gardeners over how to use pesticides correctly. A 2007 survey found gardeners habitually tipped unwanted chemicals down the drain, kept them for far longer than is recommended and disposed of empty containers through household waste rather than using specialist council disposal facilities.

The postcards are being distributed through the RHS Advisory Service and at RHS Flower Shows as well as through garden centres and other outlets.
