Congratulations go to Josie Elias for winning RHS Photographer of the Year 2012 for her image (pictured above) entered into the 'Gardens through the Season' category. She receives the coveted title and wins £1,000.
The RHS Young Photographer of the Year 2012, winning a digital camera, is Alex Berryman having shot an evocative image of a vocal fledgling robin.
This year we have had a record number of photographs entered from right around the world with the competition having gone digital and allowing entries to be uploaded via the website. The competition organiser James Arnold said 'We have been astounded by the photographs we have received this year, not only by the record number of entries but the extraordinary quality of the images which people have produced, it’s simply breathtaking.'
The judges were Chris Young, Editor of The Garden magazine, Sarah Cuttle, photographer and James Arnold of the RHS. Children’s TV presenters Dick and Dom joined the RHS panel of judges and have supported the competition to encourage more young people to get creative outdoors. The competition is supported by Medici Cards.
'More than 8,000 photographs were entered this year', says judge James Arnold, 'a record number- so it was a mammoth task to choose the selection of winners.'
