Dame Kiri Te Kanawa to star at Wisley
15 December 2009
The legendary soprano, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa will star at the Wisley Music Festival for a gala night of world-class music.
RHS Garden Wisley hosts this popular music festival from 10 to 12 June 2010, and its line-up of star-studded concerts and firework finale has regularly made it a sell out.
Dame Kiri will perform on 10 June, mixing classical arias from Tosca, Der Rosenkavalier and Capriccio with tunes from her album of American popular songs, Bernstein’s West Side Story and her best-selling album with celebrated composer Karl Jenkins, Kiri sings Karl among others.
Born in New Zealand, Dame Kiri had won all the major vocal prizes available in the South Pacific and had started her recording career by the time she was 20. Her formidable drive, application and hard work has taken her to all the world’s top opera houses and made her one of the best-loved and respected opera singers of modern times. She was created a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1982.
New to the Wisley Music Festival in 2010, Gold Circle tickets offer reserved seating for the concert with prime views of stage, and will now include a specially designated picnic area looking onto the lake, for guests’ use throughout the evening.
Wisley Music Festival’s other performers will be announced soon. The Friday night, 11 June will be Party Night, and Saturday night, 12 June will feature two Tribute Bands.
