RHS garden on tourism award shortlist

4 August 2010

Harlow Carr

RHS Garden Harlow Carr has been shortlisted for two prestigious tourism awards from a record number of entries.

The garden, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, is among the finalists for the Welcome to Yorkshire Tourism Awards for the Large Visitor Attraction class and The Sustainable Tourism Award.

Liz Thwaite, head of site said: 'It’s a massive honour to have been shortlisted for these awards during such a special year for Harlow Carr as we celebrate our 60th birthday.

'All the staff work incredibly hard to keep this garden special and we are constantly looking at new ways to improve the visitor experience. Our new Bramall Learning Centre is set to be one of the greenest buildings in the country and is an example to our commitment to sustainable practises which we hope will inspire others to do the same.'

Judging of the White Rose Awards (Yorkshire tourism awards) is undertaken by a panel of independent judges chaired by Barbara Woroncow OBE. Shortlisted finalists will now be mystery-visited with the results being presented to the panel for final judging in September. The winners will be announced during October.
