Celebrating 30 years of great design

21 March 2011

Garden design by Andrew Wenham

The Society of Garden Designers (SGD) marks its 30th anniversary this year by joining forces with the RHS to launch Open Gardens, a series of national events for summer 2011.

On three Sundays through the summer 10 different gardens will be open each Sunday, to show them at their seasonal best.

This is a new nationwide development of the SGD's successful London Garden Trail, which ran for one day only in the capital in 2009 and 2010, and last year attracted more than 6,000 visitors.

The events will take place on 1 May, 26 June and 25 September at rarely-seen public and private gardens in England and Wales. Visitors can enjoy some of the most inspiring British gardens created in the last three decades by designers like Dan Pearson, whose project for Maggie's Centre in London for cancer sufferers and their families is open in June; Robin Williams and John Brookes.
