Gardening courses relaunched by lecturer
9 February 2011
New part-time horticulture courses have been launched at East Lambrook Manor Gardens in Somerset. The courses were set up following the closure of Yeovil College’s horticulture courses due to the withdrawal of government funding.
Somerset-based horticulturist and former Yeovil College lecturer John Horsey has relaunched the one-day-per-week courses, which will lead to the East Lambrook Diploma in Horticulture.
‘I couldn’t let my past students down. I knew there was a demand out there for horticultural courses, but nobody could afford the fees once all government backing for adult education had been withdrawn,’ says John.
The new courses make full use of the gardens and nursery at East Lambrook Manor Gardens, which were created in the 1950s by celebrated plantswoman and gardening writer the late Margery Fish. Each student will have his or her own plot, ensuring hands-on experience.
The courses are aimed at those wanting to learn more about gardens, plants and how to look after them and are for complete beginners and those with some experience. The courses cost £475 each and will run over 25 weeks until late July.
Applications are still being accepted from prospective students, please contact John Horsey for details, tel: 01460 240328.
