The Dry Temperate Zone is on the sunny, west side of the Glasshouse.
It is heated to between 8-12°C (46-54°F) to mimic dry semi-arid and desert environments.
As in the wild, it appears sparsely planted but contains a rich diversity of tough, slowing growing and often prickly plants growing amongst the scree and rocks.
These are adapted to survive their harsh natural environment and conserve every drop of moisture. They include plants such as many desert cacti and succulents from countries including Chile, South Africa, Madagascar and Australia.
