The Moist Temperate Zone is on the shadier, east side of the Glasshouse.
It is heated to between 8-12°C (46-54°F) and kept humid with a plentiful water supply. You will find native plants of the temperate forests from South America and Australasia as well as parts of Cornwall and Scotland.
A groundcover of ferns and other plants grows beneath the understorey of shrubs and epiphytes, which are in turn shaded by a canopy of trees and tree ferns.
The planting scheme blends plants from many corners of the world, including Australasian tree ferns, South American climbers, South African lilies and pitcher plants from North American bogs.
The moisture held beneath the canopies of tree ferns in shaded areas near the waterfall creates a cloud-forest atmosphere.
