Tropical Zone. Image: Michael Walter at TroikaLush foliage and dramatic flowers flourish in heat and humidity in the Tropical Zone.

With a minimum night temperature of 20°C (68°F) and a relative humidity of 65-70 percent, this zone has an environment similar to a tropical rain forest.

Justicia CarneaThe combination of heat and moisture promotes fast growth, immense leaf size and extravagant, brightly coloured flowers. Look out for banana, bromeliads, palm trees and fast-growing climbers, as well as familiar houseplants growing here to their natural sizes, such as the Swiss cheese plant (Monstera deliciosa) and giant Maidenhair fern (Adiantum trapeziforme).

A viewing platform allows you to get up among the tree canopy.

The Tropical Zone provies a home for many orchids from the Wisley collection. The Orchidaceae is the world's largest  family of flowering plants and many are tree dwellers. Plants from the orchid collection are rotated to create a constantly interesting display.
