Discovering exotics from around the world

Waterfall in the Glasshouse. Image: Clay PerryThe Glasshouse provides the perfect environment for growing a huge range of both beautiful and exotic plants.

Although some may be hardy or nearly so, most need a protected indoor environment to for them to be grown in most regions of the UK. But that doesn't mean you need a structure the size of the Glasshouse at RHS Wisley to grow them at home! Most are commonly grown by gardeners as houseplants, often on a windowsill, some can also be grown in an unheated or heated greenhouse, whereas yet others are more at home in a cool, possibly shaded, conservatory.

Some of the plants growing in the Glasshouse that make excellent choices for the house and home. With the right position, the correct growing conditions and a little TLC, you too can have a home full of exotic plants to be proud of.
