Glenbrook Primary School: Our garden
Glenbrook Primary is our 2000th school member. This is what Sonja Adams, a teacher and Curriculum Coordinator told us about their school garden.
“When I first arrived at Glenbrook four years ago the children played in what is now our car park. This was basically a tarmac rectangle with two metal benches. Incidents at playtime were common and the older children playing football overtook and at times intimidated the other children.
"When our head Paul Heery arrived he wasted no time in realising the potential of our field, which was only used in the summer. Paul worked with Groundwork to draw up plans and then the architects met with the children to run through the plans and make any adjustments. We now have a pathway, a patio space and a playground. Trees have been planted and picnic tables provided. To keep the football players happy we now have mini tennis courts, football and basketball pitches! Now the children can use the outside space all year round.
The development of our outside space is still in its infancy and is an ongoing project. We now have an architect who specialises in developing creative spaces and are looking forward to more projects which link the curriculum to our grounds.”
