William Hooker - Melon 'Black Rock'

The Library in London is the largest RHS Library and holds a substantial part of the historical and art collections.  It welcomes members and the public, and its fine collections will have particular relevance to researchers and students of garden history.

This collection comprises over 50,000 books, ranging in date from 1514 to the present, over 300 current periodicals, as well as many older runs of periodicals, 22,000 botanical drawings, the country’s largest collection of horticultural trade catalogues and the Royal Horticultural Society’s archives.  It is open to everyone for reference, lends to members, including a postal loan service.

Enquiry Services

Library staff offer a specialist enquiry service on garden-related topics, dealing with thousands of enquiries from gardeners, researchers, horticultural students and others, and you don’t need to visit the Library to use the enquiry service. Contact us by telephone, email, fax or letter.
