Cover picture: Crown imperials are popular garden plants known in western Europe since at least the sixteenth century. Of the four species known only Fritillaria imperialis is widely cultivated, existing in a number of attractive cultivars. The cover shows a variegated manifestation in 'Aureomarginata'.
