Noise

A summary of RHS policy

1) The Royal Horticultural Society supports all reasonable measures to reduce the incidence of noise, as it may affect gardeners and the enjoyment of gardens or where arising from the practice of gardening.

2) The Society believes that gardeners should be made aware of the possibility of damage to hearing where individuals are exposed to high levels of noise. In the domestic garden situation the nature of the problem should be seen in proper perspective, but however slight the risk gardeners should know of it.

3) The Society advises gardeners on means of reducing noise intrusion from external sources by the establishment of dense tree and shrub barriers.

4) The Society endorses research and development work by scientists and manufacturers into means of suppressing noise emitted by garden machinery during its operation.

5) The Society encourages gardeners to consider the interests of others when using noisy garden machinery.

6) The Society expects visitors to its Gardens to refrain from causing unnecessary noise likely to spoil other people's enjoyment of the surroundings.
