BBC previews London Autumn Harvest Show
29 September 2010
TV presenter Joe Swift will be getting to grips with veg growing as he previews the RHS London Autumn Harvest Show on BBC2's Gardeners' World this Friday (1 October).
The programme shows Joe trying to take his vegetable growing to another level as he has a crack at cultivating some perfectly formed vegetables to show at the prestigious RHS show, which takes place in London on 5 and 6 October.
As he prepares to compete against some of the country's finest veg growers, Joe finds the process taking over his life and garden at home. He quickly discovers that this is a very serious business and competition is fierce. But help is on hand: Joe is mentored by veteran Welsh grower Charlie Maisey who has been there and won them all. He is shown what it takes to raise the perfect onions, carrots and beans at his home in Hackney where he has to combat Hackney foxes, cats, slugs and snails.
So does he do enough win a much coveted RHS medal or not?
To find out tune in to BBC2 1 October at 7 pm for an hour of horticultural fun, emotion and jeopardy.
