Some 73 finalists have been selected from more than 1000 entries up and down the UK to compete for championship in 2012 RHS Britain in Bloom.

RHS Britain in Bloom is the nation’s largest environmental campaign where more than 200,000 volunteers across the country work together in a bid to improve the look and feel of their communities by planting a host of trees, shrubs and bulbs.

The finalists represent areas in the UK ranging from small, rural villages to major, industrial cities. The theme this year is Wild about Wildflowers and in July the RHS judging panel will tour, awarding points against three key criteria - horticultural achievement, community participation and environmental responsibility.

Sue Biggs, RHS Director General prasies the volunteers. 'Collectively the nation has planted more than 115,000 trees, 352,000 shrubs and 21.6 million plants and bulbs annually, contributing to an improved UK. It is an honour for the RHS to be associated with these groups and individuals.'

The 2012 RHS Britain in Bloom results will then be announced in October at a special Awards Ceremony in St Peter Port, Guernsey, where one of the finalists will be hailed overall champion.
