Former RHS President Sir Simon Hornby dies

Former RHS President Sir Simon Hornby has passed away.
Born in 1934, Sir Simon spent his business career working for W H Smith, serving as Director from 1974 to 1994.
He was President of the Society from 1994-2001, seeing the redevelopment of the Vincent Square offices and the creation of the new library in London, and the amalgamation of the Northern Horticultural Society into the RHS, with Harlow Carr becoming the Society’s fourth garden.
In addition to various administrative committees, he also chaired the Gardens and Trials Committees throughout his presidency.
Outside the RHS, he also served as a Trustee of the British Museum, a member of the Executive Committee of the National Trust and the Advisory Council of the V&A, Chairman of the Design Council, and President of the Book Trust.
