New Year Honours for gardeners

Stephen Blackmore, Regius Keeper of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, received a CBE for his services to plant conservation in the 2011 New Year Honours List.
Also awarded a CBE for her services to conservation was Carole Souter, Chief Executive of the National Heritage Memorial Fund & Heritage Lottery Fund.
Suzanne Gaywood, a regular organiser of the colourful exhibits for Grenada (which have won eight gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show, including 2009 pictured above), became an MBE for services to tourism and horticulture in Grenada.
An MBE went to former principal of Pershore College William (Bill) Simpson JP, for services to horticulture and the community in Worcestershire. He is a member of the RHS Bursaries Committee, a former RHS Director of Horticulture and Council member, and was principal of Pershore College for 11 years.
Other honours included Anne Elizabeth Buckingham MBE, of Farnham Beekeepers’ Association, for services to beekeeping in Surrey, and Anthony Bagnall MBE, farm foreman of HM Prison Bullingdon. Bullingdon is a past winner of the Windlesham Trophy and was runner-up this year.
