Orchids in the Glasshouse 2013
25 February 2013
Orchids in the Glasshouse (16 March – 14 April) is an annual event, celebrating all things bright and beautiful. Each year the team behind this exhibition create a stunning orchid display that shows just how amazing and versatile these plants can be. The combinations of exotic colour, tropical heat and innovative use of planting create a perfect oasis for orchid lovers and enthusiasts.
'Upon entering The Glasshouse you will find yourself face-to-face with a towering, volcano-like inferno of Ludisia orchids with fiery Cymbidium and Phalaenopsis. You can make your way through an avenue of striking Oncidium which lead to a fantasy island created using Coelogyne, Zygopetalum and other choice orchids,' says Peter Jones, RHS Horticulturist. 'As you explore the other zones of the Glasshouse look out for the delicate Dendrobium, Phalaenopsis clouds and colourful Vanda.'
Popular Phalaenopsis orchids are ideal plants for the home grower and can be seen displayed to their full potential in a new ‘Living Room’ installation in the Glasshouse Gallery, where these beautiful blooms will be displayed in a real-life situation; a real home from home. Prints from the RHS Lindley Library Orchid Collection will also be on display and available to buy.
