Pansies aplenty at Wisley

The RHS is planning a massive ‘pansy and viola plant-in’ on Tuesday, 2 October 2012 at RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey - and you could take part.
The day will start at 9.30am with a container and basket workshop run by RHS gardeners in the Hillside Event Centre, then the opportunity to put your new learning to the test in a co-ordinated effort to plant the containers, baskets and beds for the display.
After all the hard work, lunch will be provided.
We have 10 pairs of tickets to giveaway to the planting event. To enter simply email us at trials@rhs.org.uk and tell us why you'd like to take part.
Around 60 RHS staff, Horticultural Trades Association members and volunteers will be planting more than 5,000 pansies and violas for a colourful display in containers, hanging baskets and in a large open area; highlighting the many situations in which they thrive.
Gardeners visiting the display are sure to be inspired by the colour and planting possibilities. This pansy and viola planting is one of the ways the RHS and HTA are working together to show gardeners that autumn planting can have many benefits.
'As gardeners know pansies and violas are superb at providing winter colour in gardens,' says Colin Crosbie, Curator at RHS Garden Wisley. 'Planting them at this time means that there will be colour in the garden from now until spring when the plants, having settled in should be spectacular. We hope that gardeners will come along and see for themselves.'
Charmay Ball, Chair of the HTA Seasonal Plants Group asserts: 'We are pleased to be working with the RHS on this project as part of our ‘Plan it, Plant it this Autumn’ campaign. We hope that this display will get gardeners inspired into using these versatile plants even more.'
