Essential gardeners' guide published
1 September 2010
The new edition of the RHS Encyclopedia of Plants & Flowers is out now, featuring a clearer design to help gardeners navigate around the book.
The encyclopedia, first published in 1987, has sold nearly three million copies around the world and has become the must-have reference for every gardener.
Featuring more than 8,000 plants and thousands of photographs, this fifth edition begins with an explanation of plant names and a general introduction packed with practical advice on creating a garden. This is followed by an enlarged plant selector highlighting the plants suitable for particular sites, soils, conditions and purposes.
At the heart of the encyclopedia is the illustrated plant catalogue which is divided into 10 sections covering everything from trees to bedding plants, and rock plants to bulbs.
There are also full-colour spreads throughout to illustrate a range of species and cultivars within the most popular genera as well as a plant dictionary that is helpful for cross-referencing.
