The snowdrop collection at RHS Garden Wisley reflects a long-standing interest in bulbous and bulb-like plants. Items are added each year, some to replace lost or unsatisfactory material, others are new to the collection. Links are maintained with many other institutions and nurseries, with regular exchanges of material of mutual benefit. An interesting development has been the recently-established contact with the Indigenous Bulb Conservation Project at Dumlogose in Turkey.
Plants from the collection are displayed in the Alpine House each autumn and spring, creating a fine spectacle for visitors; the genus is also well-represented in the woodland gardens at Wisley.
Snowdrops throughout the garden at Wisley are being verified, and the information maintained in the RHS Horticultural Database. A separate reference collection is also maintained. Steady progress is being made in creating herbarium records of the collection, but photographs are considered to be less useful for identification. A continuing programme of twin-scaling some of the more rare bulbs has been initiated.
