The National Plant Collection of hollies (Ilex species and cultivars) is held at RHS Garden Rosemoor, the Society's Devon garden. This collection includes over 160 accessions, representing 44 species and subspecific taxa, and 120 cultivars. The collection has been added to substantially recently. Unfortunately, some disease problems have also arisen.
Plants from the collection can be seen throughout the garden, and talks and garden walks have been given, concentrating on the value of these shrubs.
The entire collection is being catalogued in the RHS Horticultural Database, including information as to each plant's sex. It is hoped to start soon on the important task of making herbarium and photographic records of the collection.
