Volume 7

March 2012

Volume 7, Studies in the history of British fruit: part 2, comprises two articles. The first is from our first guest contributor, Dr Joan Morgan, covering Orchard archives: the National Fruit Collection. This paper was first given as a talk by Dr Morgan at the RHS Europom Conference which took place at RHS Garden Wisley, 22 October 2010.
The second article by Brent Elliott discusses English fruit illustration in the 19th century. Part 2: Hooker, Withers and the Horticultural Society. This article gives a biographical note about William Hooker, in particular his portraits of fruit for the fruit authentication drawings programme from 1815 to 1821. A brief biographical note is also given about Mrs Augusta Innes Withers, who also contributed 12 drawings in 1825-1826 for the fruit authentication programme. She was also the artist for the Pomological Magazine 1827-1830.
