Volume 135
Part 8
High summer is when the hope and fortitude invested in spring should be repaid. Of course, nothing goes quite to plan – plants fail to perform due to unwitting mistakes, the weather, or legions of pests and diseases. But, without these challenges, it wouldn’t be gardening would it? However, when cherished projects work out, the sense of achievement is overwhelming. An example of evergreen Magnolia insignis I have been cosseting for the last four to five years now flowers its heart out, with its pink-tinged, white, lemon-scented flowers nestled in glossy foliage. I am sure you have your own triumphs, too.
