With the annual RHS Grow Your Own campaign now under way, and the news that for some seed suppliers 70% of their sales are productive crops, the burgeoning interest in growing fruit and vegetables shows no signs of abating.

The ‘good news’ messages about growing your own are well known – from helping to reduce food miles, to the simple pleasure of picking fresh produce from your plot. Gardeners across the country are trying a host of different crops regardless of their garden’s size or location.
